Glen Hansard is playing a free lunchtime gig at Apollo House 'to say thank you' to supporters

The singalong kicks off at 1pm today.

THIS AFTERNOON, GLEN Hansard and a host of other musicians will host a singalong at Apollo House, the abandoned building on Dublin’s Tara Street that is currently being occupied by homeless activists.

Last night, Hansard took to Twitter to invite Dubliners to come along to Apollo House at 1pm for songs and tea.

In a statement on their Facebook page, Home Sweet Home stated that Hansard will play the lunchtime gig “to say thank you to the people who have supported the opening of Apollo House for homeless people”.

It’s very clear that this is a people’s movement, so many people have given their time and energy to this freely, and that’s why we’re organising this gig at lunch time today – to say thank you to people in Ireland for their incredible generosity of spirit.

Last night, Hansard hit back at the owners of Apollo House for expressing concern at the health and safety of those staying in Apollo House.

Home Sweet Home welcome the company’s concern for the health and safety of those sleeping in Apollo House. These residents were previously sleeping on streets and in doorways. We invite the company to investigate the health and safety conditions of these streets and doorways, and get back to us with a comparative analysis.

Home Sweet Home and Irish Housing Network opened the building last Thursday. According to the group, the building is currently housing 30 residents and is at capacity.

Among the high-profile figures to lend their support to the cause are Glen Hansard, Damien Dempsey, Hozier, Jim Sheridan, Ronan Keating, Saoirse Ronan and Colin Farrell.
